Kathy Rivera is executive director and chief executive officer of North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center, Long Island’s premier children’s mental health organization that focuses on bringing hope and healing to young people struggling with a wide range of emotional challenges. Since taking on the leadership role in 2021, Rivera has successfully managed operations of the renowned agency amid a mental health crisis that continues to be marked by alarming rates of anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation among children and teens.
Rivera, who earned her Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College of the City University of New York and her Master of Social Work from the Hunter College School of Social Work, has 30 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker, along with an expertise in management. Her deep knowledge of clinical treatment, mental health policy and government facilitates profound insights and perspective on the ever-changing landscape of mental health. Rivera uses her sharp wit and commitment to team spirit and professional development to help the agency thrive. She is dedicated to making positive impacts on the lives of children, young people and families. She is a recognized expert in children and family mental health, depression, anxiety, suicide prevention, trauma and self-injurious behaviors.
Rivera was previously honored by LIBN among the 2024 Most Dynamic Women Leaders. She serves as a board member for the St. Anne Institute and on UnitedHealthcare’s behavioral health quality management advisory subcommittee.
